Reflecting on the Immigrant Day of Action Thingy

The May Day immigrant day of action definitely affected me personally:
  1. I had no trash service that day (yuck);
  2. Traffic to and from work was *very* light, which was actually nice for a change;
  3. I noticed a different crew/team of folks that normally clean and stock the kitchens/bathrooms at the office building.
It's interesting to think about that list: one could say that immigrants "do the jobs that most Americans don't want to do," like trash removal. One could also argue that an unmanaged immigrant population places excessive stress upon the infrastructure (traffic levels). I don't know what 3 means, except maybe the landlord company gave some folks the day off.

I live in northern Virginia (USA) and while I see immigrants everywhere, I did not expect to be affected personally. I was definitely surprised.
